You do not round up the last number if it is even and the number after it is 5

Oluwaseun Adeyemi

Here's the general rule for rounding: If the number you are rounding is followed by 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9, round the number up. If the number you are rounding is followed by 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, round the number down. However, a more advanced rule preferred by mathematicians is to round the number up only if the number before the 5 is odd and to round down if the number before the 5 is even. The reason for this is that the practice of always rounding up when we have a 5 adds a systematic bias to data. Since 5 is directly in the middle of the digits we round, we must round it up half the time, and down half the time to avoid systematic errors. However, in this case, we choose to stick with the general rule, hence our answer, 1.1023.
