8 divided by a number x.....
8/x>5+3
8/x=8
8x=8
X=1

Dorcas Elijah

Let the number be X
8/X = 5+ 3/X
Collecting like terms;
8/X - 3/X = 5
5/X = 5
Divide both sides by 5
X = 1
The number is 1

Let the number be x
8/x equation 1
3/x equation 2
But 8/x is 5 more than 3/x
Let the value of 3/x be y
Therefore
3/x = y equation 3
And
8/x = 5+y since it's 5 more than 3/x...... Equation 4
Final equations are
8/x = 5+y...... Equation 1
3/x = y....... Equation 2
Simple right
Now substitute the value of y in equation 2 for 1
8/x = 5+3/x
8/x = 5x+3/x
8x = 5x^2 + 3x
Collect like terms
8x-3x = 5x^2
5x = 5x^2
Therefore
5x - 5x^2 = 0
Now factorize
5x(1-x)=0
X =0
Or
X=1
Note x cannot be zero so
Our answer is 1.
Hence C is correct.
Clear right!!!
