The word “agriculture” is derived from two Latin words “ager” or “agri”, meaning “soil” and “cultura” meaning cultivation of the soil. In modern terms, agriculture is the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing crops, and rearing livestock.
Agriculture in Nigeria is a branch of the economy in Nigeria, providing employment for about 30% of the population as of 2010. The sector is being transformed by commercialisation at the small, medium, and large-scale enterprise levels.
There are several types of agriculture which include:

<li>Mixed Crop Cultivation.</li>
<li>Dairy Farming (primarily cows for milk and chickens for eggs).</li>
<li>Intensive Arable Farming (crop-growing; often staples such as wheat, maize, etc.).</li>
<li>Market Gardening (growing fruit and salad vegetables).</li>
<li>Silk Farming (cultivating silk worms.</li>
<li>Plantation or Tree Farming (long term development of timber).</li>
